15-year-old Marina from Chuguev, Kharkiv region, is another example of human resilience and the inhumane attitude of the Russian army towards Ukrainians. The girl was seriously injured in another explosion in the city and miraculously survived. The rough scars on her face now constantly remind her of the horror she experienced.
According to Yana, Marina’s mother, her daughter was seriously injured on the first day of the war, February 24th. The woman herself was not at home then – she is a nurse, so she went to work in the morning. She called her daughter a few hours later, when she realized what was happening, and ordered to get ready for her. However, the girl never arrived.
“She began to gather, there was another explosion, a blast wave – and Marina was under the windows, under the glass, the closet collapsed. Her face was cut. I didn’t know what happened to her, she just didn’t pick up the phone,” recalls Yana experienced.
Quoting doctors, Yana says that her daughter was born in a shirt. She received serious shrapnel wounds to her face, and her leg was also wounded.
“In the early days, it was a mess. Three weeks later, another glass began to crawl out of the cheek, the body began to repel it. They pulled out another glass,” the woman explains.
The girl herself, despite the innate, according to her mother, “tearfulness”, heroically endures all the trials that have befallen her. However, now she has a fear of doors, mirrors and windows, she sleeps under the covers with her head and just a few weeks ago she stopped hiding from any sound.
Also, Marina still refuses to walk on the street – she is afraid of every passing car and the like. Even going out on the steps of the house, he tries to return to his own room as quickly as possible. And, apparently, not too ready to look at herself in the mirror.
“I told her: “The main thing is that she is alive. Everything else can be fixed. The one who needs you will love you the way you are,” says Yana.
